Goddess Twist Pose (Parivrtta Utkata Konasana)

The Goddess Twist pose is a standing posture that is possibly a twisted version of the immortal pose. This posture combines the lower body strengthening advantages of immortal pose with the abdominal stimulation of a twist, extra gap, and release of tension from the upper body. It needs both strength and adaptability to keep the body stable while the body part twists.

Beginners’ Tips

To lengthen the spine before twisting, raise your waist out of the hips, the ribs out of the waist, the chest out of the ribs, and take off your chest.

NOTE: Before you start this, consult your doctor or an exercise professional about this pose. Don't try to do it alone.

Tip To Do -

1 - Start in Mountain Pose. Step the feet apart to double the breadth of the hips and point the toes at 45°. Bend deeply at the hips.
2 - Rotate the hips and inner thighs outward, sinking deeper into the squat. Place your hands on your knees and raise your waist off of the hips. Draw your tailbone down into your body by pressing your hands wide on the knee.
3 - Pull the glutes towards one another and exhale to twist the body part to the right. Transport the right shoulder back and the left shoulder forward, gazing over the left shoulder. To exit the pose, return your gaze to the right and twist your shoulders to the left.
