Fullmetal Alchemist's Main Characters

1 - Edward Elric

Edward Elric

The "Fullmetal Alchemist," Edward "Ed" Elric, joined the academy at the age of 12, making him the youngest State Alchemist in history. In an effort to heal their bodies, he and his younger brother Alphonse search the world for the Philosopher's Stone. In an unsuccessful attempt to resurrect his mother Trisha through an illegal human transmutation technique, Edward lost his left leg. He also sacrificed his right arm in return for attaching Alphonse's soul to a set of armor. Edward now uses metal prostheses, often known as automail, to replace his missing limbs. However, since trying to raise a human opens a portal known as the Gate of Truth to let the perpetrator or perpetrators see the truth, Edward obtained a profound understanding of the world and the potent capacity to perform transmutations without a transmutation circle. Edward is intelligent, strong, and even bold, but he also has a propensity to be rude and haughty out of pride.

2 - Alphonse Elric

Alphonse Elric

The younger brother of Edward Elric is Alphonse "Al" Elric. They search the nation together for the Philosopher's Stone in the belief that it may help them heal their bodies. Al lost his complete body, as opposed to Ed, who just lost one of his legs in the botched attempt to save the brothers' mother. Ed trapped Al's soul in a massive suit of armor at the last second, giving Al nearly invincible protection at the cost of one of his arms. After the incident, he and Edward set out on their quest to retrieve the body.

3 - Roy Pony

Roy Pony

The "Flame Alchemist," Colonel/Major Roy Mustang, is a State Alchemist and Edward's senior superior. At the conclusion of the series, he is given the rank of Brigadier General, and he remains a General in the epilogue. He is heavily dependent on the encouragement of his devoted minions to advance in his goal of becoming the next Führer of Amestris. The death of Mustang's closest friend and confidante, Maes Hughes, throws a wrench in his plans, and he launches an almost covert investigation to identify the real murderer.

4 - Winry Rockbell

Winry Rockbell

Winry Rockbell, a close friend of Edward and Alphonse Elric from their youth, resides in Resembool with her grandmother, Pinako Rockbell, who raised her following the deaths of her parents during the Ishbal War. Scar, in a fit of wrath, killed her parents. Winry, a prodigy following in the traditions of her grandmother, is a skilled automail mechanic who regularly designs and maintains Edward Elric's automail prosthetics. She is well known in Rush Valley for being a talented engineer with a large following of devoted clients. To secure the Elrics' submission to the state, the homunculi frequently employ Winry as an unaware captive. Winry is renowned for providing the Elrics with emotional and physical support, as well as for treating them with kindness and understanding.

5 - Scar

Scar

One of the Ishbalan Extermination Campaign survivors, Scar is so named because of the scar that crosses his face. Scar, who was portrayed as an Ishbalan warrior priest, was a skilled combatant who frantically tried to protect everyone he could from the assault. Kimblee's improved alchemical assaults, though, were too powerful. Scar's brother, who had been studying Xingese and Amestrian alchemy in an effort to gain influence over the state, donated his right arm in order to save his life. As a result of their involvement in the massacre of his people, the State Alchemists were initially the target of Scar's ire. He even turned against the Elrics after killing Nina Tucker as a show of mercy after she had been transformed into a chimaera, but after realising that the Homunculi were his true foes, he decided to support them.

6 - May Chang

May Chang

The seventeenth princess of Xing and the Chang clan's representative is May Chang. Due to the low status of her clan, she does not have any bodyguards like Lin Yao and only has her small pet panda, Xiao Mei, Shao Mei, or "Shao May," to keep her company. Shao Mei has a condition that prevents her from developing, keeping her small. May is extremely adept at alkahestry, using throwing knives to create two transmutation circles: one near herself and one at her intended target, enabling her to work with matter at a distance. Before meeting Edward Elric, she had pictured him as a tall, gorgeous young guy and claimed that he had purposefully misled her. This shows that she has a bit of imagination.

7 - Lin Yao

Lin Yao

The Yao Clan is represented by Lin Yao, the twelfth prince of Xing. Soon after getting to Amestris, he runs into Edward Elric, who he finds annoying because he's younger and taller than him. Additionally, he frequently sneaks away after leaving Edward with expensive meal tabs. Lin is a great swordsman who maintains his composure in dangerous situations despite his laid-back, silly, and uncouth demeanor. His main goal is to succeed his father as the new emperor of Xing, and as such, he acts on the principle that power cannot be attained without popular support. He is particularly attached to Lan Fan and Fu, his bodyguards, and frequently expresses greater worry for their safety than for achieving immortality and becoming the emperor.
