Cat bad behavior: how to manage it

Is a cat obedient if you train it to be? or How do you discipline a cat to stop doing something?Every cat will act inappropriately at some point. That frequently occurs because the cat is unaware of the expectations placed on them. A cat, for instance, probably won't understand that they shouldn't claw on your couch unless they actually do and receive a scolding for it.

In this post, we'll examine some of the best techniques for training your cat and stopping undesirable behaviors like marking and clawing. Typically, reprimanding your cat on its own is insufficient to change their behavior. Along with telling them what they shouldn't do, you also need to demonstrate to them what they should do.

1 - Use voice

Cat

Only using your voice to stop your cat from doing something you don't like may be sufficient. When the cat is doing badly, have a stopping word ready and use it on it. Just saying "no" or "hey" in a loud, assertive voice will accomplish the trick. Consistency is crucial to making this work. Once you've begun to use a stop word, use it consistently enough that the cat begins to associate it with inappropriate behavior and has to stop.

2 - Booby trap

Cat

If your cat frequently jumps up on countertops or even other surfaces, this technique is effective. Put a stack of light fixtures or other items where he jumps; when he steps on it, the "booby trap" will fall and scare him away. Soon, he'll start to connect this to jumping and learn to avoid that location. Make absolutely sure that the booby trap you construct is not made of dangerous or heavy materials. When you reach home, be ready to tidy up the mess!
After the collision, your cat might hide for a while. That's okay. Give him some space and then let him relax for a while, as long as you're confident that he is not injured.

3 - Utter a loud noise.

Cat

When your cat leaps on countertops or begins chewing off your cords, try shaking a can of coins or just clapping loudly to get his attention. Due to their sensitivity to hearing, cats can be sufficiently startled by loud noises to halt what they are doing. If you consistently make noise whenever your cat misbehaves, he will eventually cease repeating the undesirable behavior and start to link that loud sound with it as well.

4 - Clap your hands.

Cat

Typically, all it takes to stop your cat from repeating the action is to shock them. Your cat will probably stop doing it if you can catch them the very first time and clap them. This only works the first time, though. It's unlikely that this will be enough to stop a habit your cat currently has. The cat will refrain from doing this while you are in the room instead.

Because it can only be utilized once, this is frequently among the least useful choices. If you have only recently adopted your kitten, however, before all of the routines have started to build, this can be helpful at first.

This process typically only has to be done once or twice. If your cat persists, you'll probably need to attempt another approach after exhausting this one.

5 - Employ deterrents

Cat

Citrus can even put some cats in danger because they won't touch it. Some detest pepper flakes for unknown reasons. Imagine where it leaves us. at a benefit. You can buy commercial sprays with odors and use them in and around areas where you don't wish to observe the cat. If your cat enjoys chewing on objects, you can get certain (harmless) sprays that also make such objects taste terrible.

6 - Diversion

Cat

Is your cat once again consuming your plants? Are they mesmerized by the glistening ornaments and presents under your Christmas tree? Choose a favorite toy or activity to divert their focus so they won't think about their mischievous behavior. They will completely forget about those plants if you do this frequently enough! Keep in mind that certain plants, like poinsettias, can be particularly harmful to cats.

7 - Play cat with me.

Cat

A cat that is bored is an accident waiting to happen. If you don't play with the cat much, you can be to blame for its bad habits. Someone is not receiving enough play time if your cat enjoys running around the house, chasing after objects, swiping at your leg as you walk by, and so on. We believe that senior cats who bite are another example that merits mention in this context. When this occurs, the cat is typically feeling uncertain or bewildered. Purchasing some cat toys will help you stop this tendency. Get it some cat furniture so it can scratch and a swing so it can play while you aren't around.

8 - Use water to mist your cat.

Cat

Oh yes, cats adore the water. Not! This is an effective way to quickly get your naughty cat to stop what they're doing. Have a spray bottle filled with water nearby in any areas you don't want pests to enter, including by your plants. Give them a gentle spray if they begin to chew to alert them that they are straying towards improper behavior. The majority of cats will abruptly stop what they're doing and flee. Make certain that the water bottle was set to "mist" rather than "stream" to prevent harm coming to your cat. Spray from behind as well to avoid your cat noticing you.

9 - The Break

Cat

Give the cat a timeout when it misbehaves. Choose a location in the house to act as the cat's prison. Make use of your bathroom instead. When they behave badly, take them up right away and lock them inside the bathroom for 20 to 30 minutes.

10 - Reward positive conduct.

Cat

Although it may sound absurd, rewarding a cat when it behaves properly is one way to discipline it. The justification for all of this is to ensure that the cat links positive behavior with rewards. It begins doing more positive things because it wants more rewards. We don't think a cat that is actively doing well will have much time left to engage in negative behavior, don't you?
