The description "black" is a bit misleading because these bears are also available in blue-black, white, brown, or even cinnamon. They can sometimes be challenging to distinguish from grizzly bears. Black bears are skilled tree climbers thanks to their small claws, and they will run up a tree with unimaginable speed. Feminine bears teach their cubs to climb at a young age and sometimes send them up a tree to flee from danger. Adult black bears still climb throughout their lives. They latch on with their front paws and use their back legs to run up a tree. Black bears don’t turn to travel down a tree. They come down the same way they come up: back legs first.
2 - Black bears aren't continuously black.
Black bears aren't essentially black in colour. Here in the Smoky Mountains, our bears are black, but in different parts of the country, they will be brown, cinnamon, or white.
3 - Black bear lazy in winter.
Black bears go to their dens in late November and December to hibernate, or sleep out all winter. They live off the enormous amounts of body fat they accumulate during the summer and fall, which lowers their body temperature, decreases their heart rate, and causes them to breathe more slowly. By doing this, they can avoid leaving their dens and going on bitterly cold food hunts.
4 - Black bears are good swimmers.
Black bears are not simply swift toward land—they are also good swimmers. They do not need any hassle swimming across rivers or lakes, and because of their powerful legs, they move through the water with ease and appear to relish it. While looking around, the water is also a supply of food for black bears, and they teach their baby cubs to swim early.
5 - Asian black bears once lived across all of Western Europe.
Fossils indicate that Asian black bears once lived in Western Europe in past times. Today, however, they are solely seen in the Asian part of the Eurasian supercontinent. An Asian country presently makes up the west reach of the Asian black bear, with the animals presently travelling east through South Asia. Apart from one Asian country, all Southeast Asian countries have massive and stable populations of Asian black bears. An equally massive and stable pocket of Asian black bears lives within the Russian region, as well as in Japan. Asian nations jointly contain a tiny but stable population of Asian black bears, as do Taiwan and Hainan.

6 - They have nice senses.
Black bears have a keen sense of hearing and sensible vision, but their best sense is far away from their sense of smell. With their outsized noses, bears have the power to smell out even the tiniest morsels of food. As a result, because their sense of smell is acute, they simply notice food discarded by humans and may observe the smell of food over a mile away. Their sense of smell helps them establish danger and notice a mate. Black bears have a higher hearing frequency than humans.
7 - They are not picky eaters.
Black bears consume fish, berries, roots, moose, moose meat, insects, and occasionally even carrion (dead animal flesh left behind by other predators). Although their objective is to accumulate as much body fat as they can before their winter hibernation, they are not picky eaters.
8 - They haven't been socialised. During mating season, they solely communicate with one another.
Black bears live lonely lives for most of their lifetimes. Adult bears congregate in the summer for a brief period of mating before splitting apart for breeding purposes. Every other year, on average, females give birth to two to three cubs. Before sending their pups on their way before the following mating cycle starts, they keep them nearby for around 18 months while teaching them how to obtain food, avoid predators, and navigate their surroundings.
9 - Black bears have thick coats for winter.
The thick layers of shaggy fur on a black bear's coat help to keep it warm during the chilly winter months.
10 - Black Bear is a good runner.
Black bears may run quickly and vigorously in short bursts on flat ground, uphill or downhill, in pursuit of prey or to avoid danger. Do not attempt to outrun a bear because they can travel only short distances at speeds of 25 to 30 miles per hour, which is faster than most people.
