Rain Water droplets that become substantial enough to drop under gravity due to a reduction of water vapor within the atmosphere are called rain. 1 - Phantom Rain

Not all the raindrops that fall from the sky reach the ground. Rain will fall under certain conditions, but on no part of the Earth. This happens once rain falling from a cloud evaporates or sublimes because it attracts nearer to the Earth’s surface. Water doesn’t smell like anything, so why will rain turn out to have a nice smell once it falls? Well, it’s as a result of a molecule referred to as geosmin, created by a soil-dwelling bacterium. Once rain falls, it creates air pockets that contain tiny amounts of geosmin. The rain traps release these air pockets, dispersing geosmin into the air wherever it’s unengaged to junt human sniffers. Even has a name: "Petrichor" for the fragrance of rain.
