Peacock Pose (Mayurasana)

In peacock pose, the body resembles the bird peacock (mayura), wherever the hands take the form of the bird’s legs, and therefore the legs match the feathers of the peacock. While forming a part of a yoga sequence for shoulders and arms, it's essential to follow with the correct quiet prolusion to avoid excess strain on the elbows and wrists.

Peacock Pose

Beginner’s Tip

Be sure to adequately heat up the wrists, arms, and shoulders before starting this posture to forestall agitation or injury.

NOTE: Before you start this, consult your doctor or an exercise professional about this pose. Don't try to do it alone.

Tip To Do -

1 - Begin in an upright sitting position. Sit in the Hero Pose (Virasana) with your heels on the floor. Lean your shoulders forward and place your hands on the bottom. As you lean forward, your elbows can bend slightly. Ensure that your elbows and hands are pointing inward toward your heart.
2 - Your trunk presses against the back of your upper arms as you press your palms into the ground. Your head acts towards the mat. Unbend your knees and extend your legs behind you, toes facing the ground. Your body weight ought to be distributed evenly between your hands and feet.
3 - Engage your core as you prepare to transfer the weight of your lower body to your upper body. Squeeze your thighs together; therefore, your legs become one unit. Use your toes to transfer the weight to your upper body.
4 - Lift your feet off the ground one at a time. As you regain balance in your arms, lift your legs so they're parallel to the ground. Carry your head and appearance forward. Hold this position for 15 to 30 seconds, keeping your core, pelvis, and thighs engaged.
5 - Unleash the pose by lowering your feet to the ground, then your knees. Take off your hands and sit back on your knees and heels to take the pressure off of your wrists.
